Current media of today is being nominated for deletion

Surely we shouldn't have our featured media be one that is likely a copyright violation? Is there no process to detect that? Traumnovelle (talk) 21:01, 17 May 2026 (UTC)

Traumnovelle, apparently not. Template:Motd/2026-05-21 shows File:2018 元朗十八鄉天后誕花炮會景巡遊 大江浦羅梁醒獅團.webm which comes from YouTube and doesn't have a license review. It has an interesting opening animation which looks somewhat professional (even though the rest of the video doesn't) and was uploaded by YK Y. It's the only video they ever uploaded and they have 3 subscribers. The video features lots of performance art with handicraft dragons and dragon costumes which doesn't seem like it would be covered by HK FoP as it's not permanently located.
Template:Motd/2026-05-24 will bring File:Gong Xi Gong Xi (恭喜恭喜), written and composed by Chen Gexin (陳歌辛), sung by Yao Lee (姚莉), 1940s recording.opus, uploaded by User:JaydenChao, which incorrectly uses {{PD-US-record}}. - Alexis Jazz ^{ping plz} 13:37, 19 May 2026 (UTC)

I feel there should really be a bot or something or maybe even some manual review a few days before the file is uploaded to ensure it has no obvious licence issues (e.g. no US PD tag) or that files being nominated for deletion are not put on the main page. Mistranslation
